Is it really necessary to protect yourself?

It depends who you ask, how you were taught and what you think you need to protect yourself from. Some people don’t think it’s necessary and others have it as a part of their daily routine.

However, let me say that if the very thought of protection makes you frightened (because you start to imagine all sorts of horrific attacks from lower beings) please don’t be.

If you always work in the light and say an opening prayer before working,

your Guides, Guardian Angel and Angels will always be around you and

only the highest and best will be let through.

One last word on the subject of lower energies – if you ever feel frightened by anything at all or you feel that you need strong backup, call for the Archangel Michael. As soon as you call, he will be there and you will be safe.

Psychic protection is absolutely vital to protect yourself from negativity – your own and the negativity of others.

Psychic Protection as part of Looking After Yourself

A big part of Psychic protection means looking after yourself so that you don’t burn out.

It also means closing down your chakras after working so that you are not connected to the spirit world all of the time. That would deplete your energies very quickly.

My Experience of not Closing Down Properly…oops

When I was lucky enough to be part of Ivy Northage’s Development Circle at the Spiritualist Association of Great Britain, I experienced what happens when you don’t close down properly.

It had been a good evening and I am ashamed to confess that when Ivy lead the closing prayer, my mind was wandering and going back over what had happened in circle. I walked out into the cold London night and hailed a black taxi to take me home.

I don’t know if the taxi driver had unwittingly drained my energy but I paid for my mistake the next day. When I woke up in the morning, I was so exhausted on a deep level that I just couldn’t get out of bed. I had to take the day off work and spent that day visualizing my energy building back up.

Energy Drainers

We all know people who are ‘energy drainers’. They are often called ‘psychic vampires’ which is quite a scary name for someone who is not evil or malicious. Some people make us feel elated, almost euphoric and full of positive possibilities. Others make us feel totally exhausted. A good way to deal with these negative people is to visualize yourself inside a bubble of protection.

Another way is to visualize a mirror in front of you – but the mirrored surface is facing away from you. If an energy drainer starts to sap your energy, that will be reflected back at them. This can be an interesting exercise as most energy drainers beat a hasty retreat when faced with your ‘mirror’. They won’t know why…but you will.

For some reason, a lot of people who I have known who work as psychics, Mediums and healers are often the worst at looking after themselves – and I include myself in that group. You would think we would know better but we’re so busy making sure that everyone else is alright, that we slide to the bottom of the list.

It’s very easy to look after yourself so that your energy remains strong and vibrant.

White Light – the Ultimate Protection

You can stand or sit for this exercise.

Visualize a ball of white or golden light above your heard. Now imagine that there is white light pouring out from the ball and cascading over your head. It goes right through you and around you. Imagine it filling up your physical body from the tips of your toes. As it fills you up and washes over you, it takes away all negativity. When you see that the white light has completely filled you, you can see it start to flow outwards until you are covered in a layer of white. Visualize a shell forming around the outside of this white light until you are completely encased in it.  Then visualize your crown chakra closing to keep all of that lovely Divine white energy inside you.

Many people like to do this exercise in the shower. This is a great idea for 2 reasons.

  1. As the water flows over you, just imagine that it is white light.
  2. It becomes a part of your daily routine. This is good because the more you practice it, the easier it will become – and the more effective it will become.

Cleanse your Aura

Negativity (your own and the negativity of others) can stick to your Aura like chewing gum on the sole of your shoe. If this is allowed to build up, it can ultimately damage or tear your aura which makes you more vulnerable.

You can do an Aura meditation where you focus on your Aura and visualize it shedding darker areas and see any tears mending.

The Importance of Grounding

You may have heard people say that someone “has their head in the clouds” or “are away with the fairies.” These are perfect descriptions for people who don’t ground themselves regularly.

If you don’t ground yourself regularly, you can start to feel light headed and disconnected.

This is absolutely necessary and is very quick and easy to do.

Stand firmly with your legs slightly apart. Then imagine a root growing out from the sole of each foot. Imagine it growing out and down until it is deep into the ground.

If you’re sitting, you can imagine the same thing.

The first chakra, the root chakra, is involved in grounding so keep it tuned and stay in touch with it through visualization and/or meditation.

Taking a walk in nature is also very grounding. If you can walk barefoot – so much the better. And sunlight is very good for your aura too.

Make sure you are getting enough. When you get overtired, it’s not good for your aura or your chakras. It’s certainly not a good thing to be tired when you’re working.

Life in Moderation

The best way to stay healthy and to look after your physical being is to live by the rule of “everything in moderation.”

If you’d like a glass of wine, have one. Eat a moderate diet. Take regular exercise.

Psychic Protection is Necessary

I hope that this has helped you to understand why psychic protection is necessary. You need to use it from Day One so that it becomes an ingrained habit that you use without even having to think about it.
